Facing the Giants

We watched the movie tonight at Living Hope, "Facing the Giants." I had a good time. Everyone seemed to really like the movie. I was holding my daughter Elizabeth at the end of the movie and she was shaking she wanted so bad for the Eagles to win the football game.

I have watched numerous sports movies where the underdog has to face all the odds to win. Usually those teams find strength deep within themselves or in their teammates. They always fight the demons they face in their home lives. Sometimes they overcome them and sometimes they don't. This is the first sports movie I recall where the team found all it's strength in Jesus Christ to overcome both on and off the field. At the end of the movie Rudy, everyone was chanting for Rudy. Rudy did pray a few times, but in the end it was all about Rudy. At the end of Facing the Giants God was blatantly getting the glory. In fact one of the lines in the movie was, "If we win we give God glory, if we lose we give God glory." I definitely think there should be a place for this type of movie.

Now I do not know if God is going to allow you to win the state championship like he did the Eagles' football team in this movie. Or if God will give you a new truck or the family you have always desired as he did the coach. Here is what I do know our Heavenly Father will take care of you, because he cares for you. I like the line in the movie, "Give God your best and leave the outcome to him." So God that's what we ask for, grace to give You our best. We trust you Father with the outcome.

I leave you with some of the lyrics from the closing song in the movie. The song is Voice of Truth, by Casting Crowns.

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
From on top of them lookin' down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.

I love you.
